Drexler Formula Cup – Hockenheimring

After the first two races of the Drexler Formula Cup, a close battle emerged between Benjamin Berta (Franz Wöss Racing) and Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing). The third race weekend at the Hockenheimring saw the defending champion from Hungary dominate on both days. Berta set the fastest lap in qualifying (1:33.691 min), beating Zeller by 0.871 seconds. Behind him, Maximilian Malinowski (Franz Wöss Racing) took the second row alongside Marcel Tobler (Jo Zeller Racing).

At the start of the 15-lap chase in the first race, Berta took the lead and pulled away from his pursuers. At the finish, he had a clear advantage of almost 22 seconds over Sandro Zeller. The Swiss Formula 3 veteran was up against Maximilian Malinowski (Franz Wöss Racing) over the race distance, who initially kept an eye on Zeller. Only in the final laps did the gap between the two Formula 3 drivers become somewhat more significant, at a good 3.5 seconds. Marcel Tobler dominated the competition, finishing fourth overall and winning the Formula 3 Trophy. He held off his teammate Urs Rüttimann, who relegated Andre Petropoulos (Team Hoffmann Racing) to third place on the podium and prevented the Briton Lee Cunningham (Jo Zeller Racing) from closing in.

In the second race on Saturday, Benjamin Berta once again dominated the single-seater field. After the start, he quickly pulled away from the field without much resistance and took his first one-two of the season. Behind him, it looked like an upset until the 10th lap. Maximilian Malinowski had held off Sandro Zeller, but from the eleventh lap onward, he had to let the Swiss driver pull away, who had built up a respectable 10-second lead in the final sprint. Andre Petropoulos won the Formula 3 Trophy with a commanding performance, beating Urs Rüttimann and Marcel Tobler by over 15 seconds. Behind the Swiss, Michael Fischer finished seventh overall and was rewarded with the win in the Formula Light category. The Austrian, from the LRT racing team, even celebrated a one-two victory in Hockenheim on his Drexler Formula Cup debut. Following her success last year, Frenchwoman Sarene Ziffel had to admit defeat this time, finishing second twice. Dennis Hübel (Speed Center Team) and Nicolas Löffler (Franz Wöss Racing) shared third place in both races.
