Drexler Automotive Formula Cup – Automotodrom Brno (CZE)
Two weeks after the race weekend in Slovakia, the Drexler Formula Cup will start its fifth round in Brno (5–7 September). The traditional circuit in the Czech Republic heralds the start of the final autumn round of the formula racing series, which concludes the season in Imola and at the finale in Misano. The Masaryk Racing Days are one of the highlights of the Drexler Formula Cup season. With this year's MotoGP race just over a month ago, Brno has enjoyed an enormous boost. It is back in business with the ‘big boys’ on the international stage. The MotoGP circuit has been significantly improved, and not just with new asphalt. The bumps are also a thing of the past. In addition, the run-off areas in the corners have been expanded. In MotoGP, the new surface was particularly praised, as it now offers significantly more grip and allows for faster lap times. In Brno, the Drexler Formula Cup will be racing alongside the TopJet F2000 Trophy from Italy. Accordingly, the field in the formula classes is very well represented.
The racing programme, featuring GT racing series as well as TCR Europe, the Clio Cup and F4 CEZ, is once again one of the absolute highlights of the FIA CEZ this year. ‘We don't expect a preliminary decision in Brno, but the tension is rising in Formula 3 because all the top-ranked drivers will be competing against each other,’ says coordinator Franz Wöss. The Schwarzenberg team boss and organiser is not only thinking of his protégé Benjamin Berta, who did not compete in Slovakia two weeks ago. As things stand, Berta will once again be locked in a knife-edge duel with Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing). The seven-time Drexler Formula Cup champion is capable of great things in Brno after his double victory in Slovakia. Andrea Benalli (Puresport), Stig Larsen (Franz Wöss Racing) and Kurt Böhlen (Jo Zeller Racing), who are behind the leading duo, are always good for a podium finish. An exciting battle is also expected in the Formula 3 Trophy for the fifth race weekend. Urs Rüttimann (Jo Zeller Racing) will not be at the start after his strong performance at the Slovakiaring. This means that Andre Petropoulos (Team Hoffmann Racing), Nikolay Takev (APE Racing) and Oliver Kratsch (Facondini Motorsport),
as well as the two Jo Zeller drivers Lee Cunningham and Marcel Tobler, to secure a good starting position for the final autumn races. In the Formula Light category, Austrian Michael Fischer (LRT Racing) has made a furious debut this season with two double victories. In Brno, it will be important for him to defend his perfect starting position. Nicolas Löffler (Franz Wöss Racing) and French driver Saren Ziffel, as well as Dr Norbert Groer (Team Hoffmann Racing) are always contenders. Drivers from nine nations will compete in the Drexler Formula Cup at the Masaryk Racing Days. Free practice sessions are scheduled for the whole day on Friday (5 September). The first qualifying session is scheduled for around 4.40 p.m. The first race will take place on Saturday (6 September) at 9.40 a.m. The second qualifying session will follow on Sunday (7 September) at 9.35 a.m. The Drexler Formula Cup will start its second race at around 12.15 p.m.
