Sandro Zeller wins seventh title

Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup - Brno (CZE)

In two exciting races during the Masaryk Racing Days in Brno, the title decisions were made in the Drexler Formula Cup. In Formula 3, Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing) successfully defended his title. Benjamin Berta (Team Hoffmann Racing) also won the Formula 3 Open title. Both drivers fought it out between themselves for the day's overall victory. Sandro Zeller had taken pole position in qualifying for the first race on Saturday. After the start, Zeller took the lead ahead of Benjamin Berta, who was pressed by Vladimir Netusil (Effective Racing). Netusil, however, overdid it with his pace. While Sandro Zeller was able to pull away, Netusil slid into the gravel and dropped back to ninth place. Zeller won with a lead of 23.982 seconds ahead of Berta and Nicolas Szabo (Gender Racing Team). Netusil had started a catch-up in the second half of the race and caught David Richert (Franz Wöss Racing) with fourth position.

For the 2nd race on Sunday, Benjamin Berta had managed a fabulous time in qualifying with a 1:51.496 min. The Hungarian was 0.452 seconds faster than Sandro Zeller. This set the stage for an exciting race. Zeller got off to a better start and took the lead. The eye-to-eye duel was reminiscent of last year's race in Brno, where the two drivers didn't give each other a single meter. On the fifth lap Berta passed Zeller. At first, the Hungarian managed to build up a lead over his pursuer. But Zeller did not give up and came back to Berta in the closing minutes of the 14-lap chase. Benjamin Berta withstood the pressure of the Swiss Formula 3 Champion until the finish and crossed the finish line with a 0.571 min lead. Behind the two contenders, Benjamin Dam (Team Hoffmann Racing) finished third ahead of Nicolas Szabo and David Richert, who secured the runner-up title in Formula 3 behind Zeller. In Formula Renault, Dr.Norbert Groer (Team Hoffmann Racing) won both rounds and secured the title win early. In the Formula 3 Open category, Benjamin Berta celebrated winning the championship. Japan's Juju Noda (Vadum Racing) finished 11th twice in the day's overall standings. In her Formula Regional monoposto, Noda improved to seventh in the Formula 3 Open category. As previously stated, many title decisions were made in Brno. In the end, the favorites clearly prevailed. While Sandro Zeller can celebrate his seventh consecutive title in the Drexler Formula Cup, Benjamin Berta clinched his first international title. Dr. Norbert Groer successfully defended his title from the previous year in Formula Renault. The Drexler Formula Cup meets for its grand finale in Mugello at the beginning of October.
