Season starts in early May in Monza (ITA)

Drexler Automotive Formula Cup

The Drexler Formula Cup has once again rearranged its calendar for this year. The opening event in Mugello (ITA) planned for March 28th has been cancelled. The currently tightened regulations and travel restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic prevent the start of the season in Italy. As in previous years, the Drexler Formula Cup has seven race events in its sights. At this point, there seems to be no doubt that the Covid-19 pandemic will remain the determining factor in season planning and its execution for 2021. "At this stage, we have six events underpinned and are still in discussions with race tracks and promoters. Never before has a season been as difficult to plan as this year," says coordinator Franz Wöss. This one could be similarly difficult, but at least with some hurdles like last year.

Last year, the Drexler Formula Cup managed to stage six race weekends with the support of the organizers, as well as the participants and sponsors. It is worth remembering that there were some racing series in Europe that were much more severely affected by Corona. The new date for the season opener is scheduled for the first weekend in May in Monza (ITA). After that, it's off to the Red Bull Ring (AUT) in mid-May. The Salzburgring (AUT) will follow in mid-June. This will be followed by two events, both of which were fixed at the end of February. On the last weekend in June, the Drexler Formula Cup will race at Spa-Francorchamps (BEL). Imola (ITA) will be a guest in mid-July. In keeping with tradition, the first weekend in September will be at Brno (CZE). "We would like to hold seven races," says Franz Wöss. The race tracks that have now been determined are part of the Drexler Formula Cup's continued international orientation. With Monza, Red Bull Ring, Spa-Francorchamps and Imola, four Formula 1 circuits are included. In general, the Drexler Formula Cup will continue its cooperation with the Italian FX Topjet 2000 and the FIA CEZ in 2021.
