Facts and figures: The 2019 balance

Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup

At the end of the year it is time to review the 2019 season in the Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup. In 2019 there were seven racing events (15 races) on the calendar. These took place partly on Formula 1 GP tracks or Moto GP tracks. At the Red Bull Ring the formula series had a record field with 36 participants. At the final on the Hungaroring there were 28 participants again. On average 26 drivers from 12 nations were at the start. The four rating classes with the Formula 3, Formula Renault 2.0, Formula 4 and Formula 3 Trophy proved themselves.

Drexler-Automotive Formula 3 Cup
In the Formula 3 category Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing) dominated the season and scored 298 points in the end. Nine race wins are on the Swiss driver's credit side. The runner-up Andrea Cola (Monolite Racing) scored a total of 229 points in 2019 and could only make everything clear for the final in Hungary. The Roman won twice this season, finished third on the podium three times and finished third five times each. The fight for third place remained exciting until the final spurt. Tom Beckhäuser (Franz Wöss Racing) prevailed in Hungary against Antoine Bottiroli (GFORCE Racing). In the end, the Czech remained with 191 points just ahead of the Italian, who scored 188 points and finished fourth. Beckhäuser won four times in 2019, took second place twice and was almost always continuous in the points. Antoine Bottiroli took six third places, but was eventually overtaken by Beckhäuser. Like Beckhäuser, Marcel Tobler (Jo Zeller Racing) could not be present at the season opener at Monza. In the course of the season he improved with four third places and was always to be found in the points.

Bottiroli could shine with one victory and nine second places. Marcel Tobler was twice recorded as the runner-up and with six third places he was able to finish on the podium several times.

In Formula 3, Dallara, the successful chassis of recent years, was used by the teams. On the engine side, the Drexler-Automotive Formula 3 Cup can boast an engine variety like no other series. With Mercedes, Volkswagen, Opel Spiess, Toyota, Mugen and Fiat, the engine manufacturers were represented that have shaped Formula 3 to this day and have helped to determine its internationalisation. Three times, the Formula Series cooperated with the ESET V4 Cup and twice with the FIA Zone Championship. Four times the TOPJET F2000 Italy Formula Trophy was held. In the media, the company was able to make further gains in 2019. In addition to the extensive coverage in the online media such as AUTOMOBILSPORT.com, Autosport.at, motorsport xl, autosprint.ch and auto-rennsport.de, the print media Rallye & more and Top Speed succeeded in increasing their coverage.
