Second round in Imola

Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup

The Autodromo "Enzo e Dino Ferrari" will host the third round of the Drexler Formula Cup this coming weekend. In cooperation with the TopJet F2000 Italian Trophy, the Drexler Formula Cup is in the best of company. For the championships of Italy, the circuit racing season enters the next round. The TCR Italy Touring Car Championship and the Italian Formula 4 Championship will join the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia and the Clio Cup Europe on the Formula 1 track at the ACI Racing Weekend. After the cracker of a field at Monza, Imola is set to be buzzing with over 40 Formula cars. "In Imola, the interest of the teams is at least as high as in Monza. In the past, we had even bigger starting fields there," says coordinator Franz Wöss. There will be another clash with the pilots from the TopJet F.2000 Italy Trophy.

A fortnight ago, Paolo Brajnik beat the competition in both races. Cian Carey (Franz Wöss Racing) took two podium places and wants to finish in the points again in the Formula 3 Open category. Sandro Zeller made things clear in Monza with a double victory in the Formula 3 classification. Along with Marcel Tobler (both Jo Zeller Racing), he is one of the closest favourites. David Richert (Franz Wöss Racing) is currently leading the Formula 3 standings. It is impossible to predict whether the Formula 3 Open race cars will also be able to show their dominance in Imola. In Monza, Sandro Zeller was able to keep Benjamin Berta (Team Hoffmann Racing) just behind him in both races. Nobody would have expected the gaps to be so close. Enough excitement is in any case pre-programmed for Imola as well. In Formula Renault, Dr. Norbert Groer (Team Hoffmann Racing) took the lead with his double victory in Monza. Robert Siska (Franz Wöss Racing) also made it onto the podium and has been able to close the gap to Andre Petropoulos (Team Hoffmann Racing), who celebrated a double victory in Hungary. Juju Noda (Vadum Racing) from Japan scored her first points in the Formula 3 Open in Monza. For her, the first season in the Drexler Formula Cup counts as a training year to get to know the Formula 1 tracks in Europe. The race starts in Imola on Friday (06.05.) with the free practice sessions at 9.00 and 12.45 hrs. Qualifying will take place at 18.00 hrs. On Saturday (07.05.) the lights will turn green for the 1st race at 14.00. On Sunday (08.05.) the 2nd race will take place at 11.30 am.
